Fingertip Decision Matrix

Make better decisions together with your team using Fingertip’s Decision Matrix.

Remove bias from group decisions

With the Decision Matrix by Fingertip, you can collaborate to make decisions more accurately together, using Microsoft Teams. Set criteria, give the scores, and get a clarity of your best alternative.

What is a decision matrix?

Some decisions can be tough to make. That is true especially when

  • there is a complex set of criteria with different importance levels
  • the deciding stakeholders have varying priorities
  • a shared opinion forming is needed.

Decision matrix is a tool that will help you consider all the important criteria when making a decision. It brings more clarity and transparency into the process and helps you to prioritize your alternatives while reducing the impact of biases.

Here’s how to create a decision matrix step by step:

  1. Describe the decision you need to make
  2. List the alternatives you have
  3. Identify criteria that you want to consider
  4. Choose  importance in a form of weight for each criteria
  5. Evaluate the alternatives on each criteria
  6. Calculate the score for the alternatives: for each criteria multiply each rating by the criteria weight and then sum them up.
  7. Compare the evaluations of the alternatives
  8. Pick your winner – typically the alternative with the highest score

Collaborate with Fingertip

Fingertip’s Decision Matrix is unique in the way it creates a collaborative and transparent dimension to the evaluation process.

With Fingertip you can invite people with opinion on the decision, people affected by the decision, or for example people with particular expertise on the decision being made.

After the owner of the decision has set the alternatives and criteria, the invited participants can input their own evaluation. It is also possible to allow evaluators to define their own importance weighting for each criteria. Fingertip calculates for each evaluator their personal preference ranking as well as the collective group ranking of the alternatives.

This allows you to reduce the risk of individual bias between the alternatives and to increase acceptance of the selected alternative through having stakeholders actively participate in the decision making.
